With a heart to help the financially - challenged but deserving students to continue their education at St. Stephen’s High School, All the invited alumni artists - Mr. Almond Ponge(pianist), Ms. Sharon Joyce Tan(soprano soloist) and Mr. Arwin Tan (conductor of NOVO CONCERTANTE) selflessly supported the concert. In addition, Mr. Fredeline Parin, our school’s Marching Band trainor and conductor, (1st trumpet of Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra) also shared his musical talent.
The presence of our very own school choirs: Elementary Chorale, with Ms. Melody Na Sia as the conductor and Ms. Patricia Lim as the accompanist; The Angelic Voices under the direction of Ms. Aileen Go and choreographed by Ms. Rosemarie Rivera and last but not the least, the Stephenian Chorale as its conductor Ms. Patricia Lim and accompanist Ms. Melody Na Sia altogether made the audience applauded in crescendo.
St. Stephen’s High School aims to produce or raise good readers and eventually send more learners to the best/acclaimed universities of the country ready and armed with all the skills they need to successfully finish their chosen fields of studies. The school believes that one of the best avenue that would help usher the learners to where they dream to go is providing them the rich opportunities and resources to learn with.
The Filipino delegation dominated three Hong Kong math competitions held recently, garnering a total of 401 medals, including 66 gold medals. The three math competitions are: 2013 Green World Cup (held on July 25, 2013), 2013 King of Math (held on July 26, 2013), and 2013 Asia Cup Math Olympiad (held on July 27, 2013). Marc Adrian Yu (4-Violet) and Rodwick Go (4-Violet) of St. Stephen’s High School were part of the Philippine delegation that brought home 66 gold medals, 157 silver medals and 178 bronze medals for a total of 401 medals. They competed with close to a thousand elementary and high school math wizards from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau and Indonesia.
The High School English Department, in coordination with Scholastic Inc., launched the Reading Center at the High School Library last July 29, 2013. The event was graced by school administrators led by Mrs. Marianne Y. Tan, School Director, and Mrs. Judy G. Tan, Principal. High School English subject teachers, librarians and student representatives as well as Scholastic representatives attended the activity.
High School Parent-Teacher Seminar was held on July 26, 2013 with Mr. Josiah Go, a successful marketing strategist and son of alumna Mrs. Nelly Lim Siu Sim Go, as our speaker. He discussed strategies in handling difficulties, shared ideas on how to evaluate problems and come up with solutions. Likewise, he talked about his personal experiences as a C student which gave encouragement to the audience not to give up on students who are getting mediocre grades. Being a parent himself, he pointed out the importance of family and the role of parents in the lives of children.
This year’s International Mathematics Competition was held at the city of Burgas last June 30- July 4, 2013 in Bulgaria. The event was participated by math wizards from 29 countries. Two of St. Stephen’s students were part of the Philippine delegation headed by Dr. Simon Chua, President of Mathematics Trainers’ Guild – Philippines (MTG); Director Lolita Andrada of the Department of Education; Director Filma Brawner of the Science Education Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST); and Rechilda Villame.
SSHS students won in several categories in the Manila Bulletin "Sketch Fest Year 3" with the theme My Country, My Flag" held last June 15, 2013 at Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City. Jade Valerie Chuatak, first prize winner, Kiddie Category; Abigail Tiu, 3rd place winner, Kiddie Category and Tricia Co Reyes, 3rd place winner, Junior Category.
Special Seminar on "Prevention of Child Abuse Cases and How to Handle Child Abuse and Bullying Cases" was held at the Stephenian Hall last May 30, 2013. Guest Speaker was Atty. Ulpiano "Ulan" P. Sarmiento III, AB, LL.B., LL.M., Party List Representative, Teacher, Law Professor, school lawyer, school administrator, church worker, and now a congressman.
